Features & benefits:

Open Standards Everywhere

Believe in an open web? So do we.

We don’t hold you hostage.

Many enterprise services offer features and functionality that set them apart from the rest of the competition. For example, Sharepoint does way more than just serve files, and Gmail is much more than just a webmail client.

But consider this: if you come to depend on the features that set these products apart, you no longer have viable alternatives if you ever want to change providers.

Proprietary features can be used to hold you hostage.

Vendor lock-in can be a dangerous thing. The fewer proprietary features you depend on to run your business, the better.

Backstage replaces proprietary features with open technologies and open standards wherever possible, without sacrificing the functionality you've come to depend on.

That means we fully support Exchange ActiveSync, but offer full-spec IMAP email with CalDAV and CardDav if you prefer. We also provide one of the best webmail clients on the market at no extra cost. We even offer a fully-featured open-source alternative to Sharepoint, Dropbox, Google Drive and SkyDrive.

Backstage gives you the leverage that other providers don't. But you'll never need to use it.

We can't  hold you hostage.

Backstage is designed to ensure you always have an offline copy of your emails, contacts, calendars and files. This means you always have access to your data, even if you're not connected to the internet.

Offline access, paired with open standards, means you always have everything you need to migrate away from Backstage.

You're always holding all the cards. Feels good, eh?

No Bandwidth Throttling, Either.

Did you know that Google penalizes connection speeds for IMAP traffic to Gmail? Or that Dropbox limits the amount of data your customers and staff can download from you per day?

Bandwidth caps, upload thresholds, and speed limits for downloads are common among mail providers like Gmail; storage providers like Google Drive, Dropbox, and SkyDrive; and even collaboration services like Evernote, Google Docs and Office 365. They’re a common tactic to prevent you from leaving, by limiting your ability to migrate away quickly.

We believe in net neutrality.

Backstage don’t throttle your bandwidth. There's no limit to how much data you can upload or download, and there are no penalties or higher rates if you consume more bandwidth. There are also no caps on per-user storage.

And, You can still use the same apps.

You’ve spent dozens of hours painstakingly setting up your I.T. systems. You’ve invested in platforms. You’ve purchased hardware, evaluated software packages, and spent time training your people on all of your systems and processes.

Don’t change a thing.  (Unless you want to!)

Backstage is fully cross-platform, and works on Android, Blackberry, Windows, Linux, Mac and iOS. We don’t force you to use a web browser to access your files. You can use your preferred apps to create and edit documents, manage calendars and contacts, and check your email.

Still using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP? No problem! Prefer Apple Mail, Mailbox or Thunderbird? We’ve got you covered. Want to use iWork, or Office, or Adobe Creative Suite applications to create and share your documents? Go for it.

I guess what we're trying to say is...

Backstage lets you access your data however you want, whenever you want, and wherever you want. There's no vendor lock-in of any kind. If you stay with us, it's because you want to.

And that's great.
