Dropbox has some pretty interesting bandwidth throttling and capping policies. Most are designed to push account holders to Pro storage plans. Others are wholly designed to nickel and dime you.
For example, each time you share a Dropbox file with someone, the size of that file is subtracted from the total storage you have left. They do that every time you share the file. So if you share a 25Mb PDF with 10 people, there’s a quarter gigabyte gone from your account with 90% of that being completely arbitrary and artificial. If you work with large files, this system of racking up share data can get you into real trouble. And like almost all road blocks and artificial barriers, they always get in the way at the worst time.
Let’s take a closer look at Dropbox’s bandwidth and download limits:
- 20 GB per day total download cap. You and the people you shared your files with can’t exceed 20 GB of data downloaded in 24 hours.
- Despite the size of the files you share, no more than 100,000 files can be downloaded in 24 hours.
- Pro accounts are limited to 200 GB total download cap per day.
Now, let’s take a look at Backstage bandwidth and download limits:
- There is no total download cap. You and the people you share your files with can download as much as their Internet connections can handle.
- There are no limits to the number of files you can share.
- There are no limit to the number of files you and the people you share them with can download at any time.
- No Backstage accounts have any limitations on the bandwidth or total amount of data you can download at any time.
Backstage gives you bandwidth and storage on tap no matter what. If you need to share a big file with a large group of people, we don’t get in your way. Not only do we not place limits on how much you can download, we don’t throttle your connection either. When you download a file from Backstage, our pipe is wide open to you. You will be able to sync and share your data as fast as the Internet connection between you and us will allow - always. Backstage never gets between you and your data.
