Microsoft tightens email privacy policy after taking fire over Hotmail incident

It’s nice to see Microsoft catching up with the policy we had in place five years ago.  In truth, however, we find this rather disturbing.

The real issue is that Microsoft violated a user’s privacy - without a warrant - in the first place.  From where we stand, breaking into someone’s email without a court order is egregious and offensive to our values.  Doing something like this to one of our customers isn’t possible.  Our management (yours truly) would never dare to do such a thing and our staff have enough integrity that they wouldn’t follow such an order even if it were given.  We have to sleep at night.

Microsoft can say what it wants about privacy policy.  They’ve already demonstrated their disregard for their user’s privacy and for that, they shouldn’t be trusted.
